About the Artist:
Taylor Anne Smith has been creating art in oil, acrylics,
pencil, wine, coffee and watercolor since 1986.
Inspired by the diverse sentiment of 20th century expressionists such as Pollock, Dubuffet, Leger, Mondrian,
Rothko and Rauschenberg but carrying a distinct through-line of her own individual
progress, Taylor continues to express universal truths through
her unique canvases.
Taylor often enhances the surface of her paintings by adding texture
to the base of her canvas with such diverse materials as sand,
broken glass, silicone and
Prozac capsules. This creates a wonderful
raised impasto surface on the finished pieces. She has also
successfully mixed wine and coffee into her paint for a continuing
series of works revolving around the simple pleasures of coffee
and wine.
Taylor studied language, art and public policy at Indiana
University. She subsequently resided in Europe
for five years studying art, painting and traveling the MidEast, Russia,
Europe and the Mediterranean. In 2007, Taylor was chosen from
the world art community to represent the United States at the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. Also known as the Biennale Internazionale
dell'Arte Contemporanea, this prestigious event is by invitation only. Taylor
was selected by an international jury comprised of numerous professionals from
the art world, including members from the National Academy of Art (India), The
Museum of Contemporary Art (Brazil), and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York,
USA).
Her work has been featured by
Starbucks Corporation and also many galleries in the United States.
Her work is included in diverse private collections in Germany, Italy, Spain
and throughout North America. In 2006 Taylor's work was featured in the Indianapolis Mayor's Office. She has also participated in Public Arts Projects through the Indy Arts Council.
