Abstract Artist Taylor Smith's Chemical Still Life Paintings - Bringing the still life paintings of the Old Masters firmly into the 21st century, Smith attempts to carefully construct her own abstract version of the Dutch still life with window, small objects, wine bottle and candle with smoke on a table. Chemical detail adds a layer of composition and speaks to the meaning and relationship between the subjects. These assemblages may initially appear radically different from the traditional still life, but both draw their inspiration from Old Master subjects, and are visual deceptions that reveal themselves when the viewer takes the time to stop and observe. At times adding wine to the layered paint glazes, the artist brings an authenticity to the work which can be seen and felt by the viewer.
